SOMA/SWOMA Conference
Program
We got more than 50 proposals for presentations and almost all of them were FANTASTSIC! We've opened up more rooms for sessions at the hotel so we can fit all the great ones.
Already 25 have confirmed that they are coming to present and by February 10 we plan to post them here as they come in -- watch here for updates!
Meanwhile, we are leaving the followig list of suggestions to help presenters plan their session to be engaging.
Engaging our participants
Our conferences are known for their interactive, hands-on, out-of-your-seat, critical thinking sessions that engage their participants, so presenters, give some thought about how to involve your audience.
We're not just talking about allowing Q&A or showing some videos, but actually engaging your participants - WE KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!
Here are some suggestions, and you can probably come up with more and add to our list!
- Ask them questions, either to respond as individuals or get into small groups to discuss and then share their responses, such as:
- How can they apply what you presented with their students?
- what experience have they had with the topic you're presenting?
- Get them out of their seats and maybe even out of the hotel to practice strategies, or experience what you're discussing.
Click here for a list of activities participants did in a previous conference.
- They can brainstorm with you (or in groups) to come up with solutions or ideas
etc.
- Ask someone to share a scenario they are struggling with, for participants to brainstorm how it could be addressed.
